Violin Hands – Perfect Lotion for playing violin, Body Shop Hemp Hand Protector

Besides how gorgeous the packaging is, Hemp Hand Protector from The Body Shop is a long sought solution for me for getting the perfect grip while playing the violin.

Whether your hands are dry from winter air or sweaty from nervousness, Hemp Hand Protector will give them the perfect amount of silkiness and tackiness for holding down a string and lightly gliding into fifth position. Use only a little – like a pea sized amount for both hands. It’s the only lotion I’ve tried so far that doesn’t leave a residue, either sticky or greasy, yet it perfectly hydrates your hands.

I’m happy I got this as an Ulta reward, because the price tag is a bit unnecessary, but now that I have it I expect it to last a very long time.

Referring back to a post I did earlier – I think I’m going to have to stick with my original stance that water in products is not a bad thing. It can be a very practical way to give a product the perfect consistency. This product and another favorite of mine that I’ll review later have become strong contenders in the debate for me. 🙂 But as with many things, I’m learning as I go.

Check out all the yummy ingredients below, including Retinyl Palmitate, an anti-aging vitamin, and a great blend of natural and synthetic emollients.

Isn’t the packaging lovely?

Water (Solvent/Diluent), Glycerin (Humectant), Cetearyl Alcohol (Emulsifier), Myristyl Myristate (Emollient), Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil (Skin-Conditioning Agent), Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil (Emollient), Dimethicone (Skin Conditioning Agent), C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate (Emulsifier), Glyceryl Stearate (Emulsifier), PEG-100 Stearate (Surfactant), Beeswax (Emulsifier/Emollient), Panthenol (Skin/Hair Conditioning Agent), Methyl Soyate (Skin Conditioning Agent – Emollient), Phenoxyethanol (Preservative), Fragrance (Fragrance), Sodium Benzoate (Preservative), Allantoin (Skin Soothing Agent), Citric Acid (pH Adjuster), Potassium Sorbate (Preservative), Xanthan Gum (Viscosity Modifier), Hydrogenated Castor Oil (Emollient), Retinyl Palmitate (Skin Conditioning Agent), Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax (Stabiliser/Viscosity Modifier), Disodium EDTA (Chelating Agent), Tocopherol (Antioxidant), Talc (Absorbent/Bulking Agent), Chromium Oxide Greens (Colour), Iron Oxides (Colour).

    1. I will have to try more of them then! Thanks for the invitation to post my playing – I’ve been thinking about it and it’s nice to know at least one person would be interested. 🙂

  1. Yes the Hemp one is good. I used it while was a student in the UK, but over here they don’t carry the range… 😦

By the way, you have a good relation with lotion & music instrument. hahaha… I have sweaty palms so I am VERY particular about the hand cream I use. But I don’t use anything on my hands when playing piano –> too sweaty & greasy! :p

  2. Hi chicmum! Yeah I would never have used lotion when playing the violin for the same reason – but then sometimes my hands will get really dry and I couldn’t seem to stop sliding around the strings – this is perfect for that! I love it’s silky feeling. You play piano? I love piano. Piano and violin are probably my favorite instruments. Like Cowboy girl said, you should post it! 🙂
