The hardest thing to buy is lip gloss. It’s on your lips. You taste it, it’s hard to keep on. It has to feel light, but not too light. Not too sticky. Not to heavy. Not too oily, not too waxy. I know all about lip gloss ingredients. Beeswax too high on the list and I walk away. No beeswax is better. Microcrystalline wax is ok. Stila uses it. List things like maracuja oil and mangosteen and you have my attention. I’ve gotten used to a base of polybutene – it’s better than mineral oil. I hate mineral oil.
After being blown away by Nuance by Salma Hayek skincare products, I impulsively bought a bunch of other stuff. I should never do that. It’s too overwhelming. I ended up returning it all becuase the foundation irritated my skin. That’s right, the foundation started irritating my skin and I distrusted the whole makeup line and returned my entire stash.
Sometimes you have to lose something to realize you love it. I immediately missed my Nuance Ultra Shine Lip Gloss.
“Hey you again? Still not the right color foundation?” This is what the CVS associate had said when I came to switch colors when I was testing the foundation. (He also liked to hold the products up next to his face and say, “what do you think. Makes my eyes pop, doesn’t it?”). I did not want to go back to the same store to the same associate and buy the lipgloss I had just bought and then returned. I mean I know I’m a mental case about lipgloss but I don’t want everybody to know.
So I started hunting down the other CVSs around. Only a few carry the Nuance makeup line. I was very happy when I found one. I already had another exchange in hand – the Flawless Mineral Foundation. (I think I have determined I am not going to be wowed by any of the Nuance foundations). Exchanges are so much less painful than returns. With the pomegranate colored lip gloss in hand I presented my exchange. She had to call a manager. This was new. They have me marked, I thought. Last time they asked to see my driver’s license. I’ve returned too many things. After a big ordeal, I exited the store sheepishly with my $7.49 Nuance Salma Hayek Ultra Shine Lip Gloss. A whole .48 oz.
Half an ounce is a lot of lip gloss for $7.49. Especially lip gloss with no mineral oil. Especially lip gloss that stays on through kissing and snacking and 5 cups of tea. Especially lip gloss with such high shine and such strong pigment, and emollients like mango seed oil and mimosa bark extract near the top of the ingredient list, along with Vitamins A, C and E. 🙂
No more expensive high brand lip gloss that only contains .125 oz. This is a good exchange. Thank you Salma Hayek.
